The emigration from Novafeltria and the other 6 municipalities of high Valmarecchia towards the coast has lately been continuous and massive. The data presented yesterday by the statistic office of the Province shows that there are more than 7 thousand people (7032, to be precise) who have moved from high Valmarecchia in one of 20 municipalities. Rimini is, by far, the favorite place for the emigrants from high Valmarecchia. 7032, 63% live in the capital, Rimini and not only: 14% of the immigrants lives in Verucchio and 10% in Santarcangelo. This indicates that even beyond administrative boundaries, Rimini has always been the reference point for the 7 municipalities of high Valmarecchia., both economically and socially. But what has prompted many people (sometimes entire families) to pack and move from the valley to the coast? Findind a job, especially in the past. It is no coincidence that the majority of people now living in Rimini or other communities further downstream (70%), left Valmarecchia over 30 years ago. In fact, the migratory movement has been massive since the 50s, but then in the 80s there was a phenomenon back to the valley. For various reasons: some have chosen to return to their country of origin, and buy a house in Valmarecchia for a low price in the housing market for instance. There are currently 2.145 people living in high Valmarecchia but which originate in Rimini or one of the other municipalities in the old province. For more than 500 people (about 25%) this has actually meant a return to origins, as they were born in one of the seven towns in Upper Valmarecchia.
