Cattolica opens this Friday an exhibition dedicated to the tradition of bathing. The exhibition has the purpose to show in pictures the history of bathing and the important Rone of Cattolica in this tradition.

The birth of bathing in seventy historic photos; Lifeguard, an ancient craft for tourism. Opens on Friday, July 23 at the Municipal Gallery Santa Croce in Cattolica, Via Pascoli from 21 pm - the opening of the photo exhibition with photographic images taken from the archive of the Multipurpose Cultural Center and organized by the Cultural Institute of Regina.

An exhibition of historic photographs meant to describe the birth and the history of the first bathing, men and women who have built with the management and organization of bathing services on the beach. An exhibition on the events and characters, resulting in an extended visual narrative that stretches along more than a century. The role of the beach as a place of leisure, recreation and health is becoming fundamental in the construction of a new form of holiday since the late nineteenth century. Cattolica, like other coastal cities, was among the pioneers and protagonists of this. The origins of the bathing seasons, protection and health practiced at sea during balneotherapy gradually supplanted the small coastal fishing activities carried out with small boats and lifeguards.

The exhibition will explore the world of the lifeguards over a period ranging from 1900 to the 60s: the faces and personalities, typical behaviors, main activities. The retrieval of images and their storage and cataloging are a credit to the cultural structures of Cattolica. This is due mostly to the availability of willing citizens and tourists, including foreigners, who have allowed the reproduction of their private albums so as to allow the reconstruction of many micro premises on which it was possible to weave the social history of the city. The exhibition will be held at the Municipal Gallery Santa Croce, from July 23 to August 30 and will be opened from 20 to 23 pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
